YouTube changes the rules: no monetisation for inauthentic content — are you ready?

Starting July 15, 2025, YouTube has officially updated its monetization policies to hit hard an increasingly popular but increasingly less welcome type of content: “inautentici” videos. If you're an artist, a label, a content creator, or simply a professional who uses YouTube to generate revenue with music… this news concerns you closely.

What is “inautentico” content? And why is YouTube penalizing it now?

According to the new YPP (YouTube Partner Program) guidelines, any content that falls into these categories will be considered inauthentic:

  • Videos with voices generated by artificial intelligence (text-to-speech),
  • Repetitive or reused content with little or no educational value,
  • Nearly identical videos,
  • Compilations made without creative effort,
  • Automated and faceless videos,
  • Readings of other people's books, articles, or texts without original transformation,
  • Manipulated music tracks (pitch, speed, loops, unauthorized mashups),
  • Massive formats and products with pre-set templates.

All of this will no longer be monetizable. And we're not just talking about new creators: even channels already enabled for monetization risk suspension or permanent removal if they don't immediately comply with the new rules.

The risk is real: thousands of channels at risk of demonetization

YouTube clarified that this policy is not entirely new, but rather a tightening of the old rule against “contenuti ripetitivi”. Now, however, the platform has established much stricter and more detailed criteria to decide who can and cannot earn.

The crackdown comes after the boom in AI-generated channels, anonymous, soulless, which saturate the platform without offering real value to users. The consequence? A witch hunt even against well-intentioned artists and music producers, who perhaps publish alternative versions of their songs, reaction videos, or compilations for promotional purposes.

If you don't know how to adapt your channel and your content, you could lose everything from one day to the next.
